LAYNE STALEY's Death Was From Mix Of Heroin And Cocaine

ALICE IN CHAINS frontman Layne Staley died from a fatal mix of heroin and cocaine, the King County Medical Examiner's Office said yesterday.

Laboratory tests determined the singer died on April 5th, according to a spokesperson for the King County medical examiner's office. Staley, 34, was found dead in his University District home on the evening of April 19th surrounded by drug paraphernalia after police were summoned by his family.

The death certificate reads Staley's death resulted from "an acute intoxication due to the combined effects of opiate (heroin) and cocaine" called among other terms, "speedball," "dynamite" and "murder one."

The death was classified as "accidental."
